He shares his hallmark stamp with his wife, Shirley Benn. Shirley Benn (b. 1936), a Tewa artist, has been active since the 1950s as both a potter and silversmith. She also specialized in channel and mosaic inlay, creating intricate designs that at times included early needlepoint, crosses, and small pins. Shirley shares the same hallmark stamp with her husband, Virgil Benn. She is the daughter of renowned potter Daisy Hooee Nampeyo (wife of famed silversmith Leo Poblano) and the mother of jeweler Bryceson Pinto.
